There are many types of tree guard and tree protector on the market, however the efficiency of some of the latest designs has not yet been officially tested.  However, we are able to advise as to the effectiveness of most varities.  In small woodlands, and areas planted for amenity purposes, they can be effective, albeit they can be unsightly.  In large woodlands they are usually too expensive to be viable. 

See below for recommended heights for tree guards and tree protectors, depending upon whether you are seeking to protect trees from deer or rabbit damage.  In large woodland, deer fencing or deer control through culling is likely to be a more cost effective and viable option than installing thousands or tree guards and tree protectors.
